The sorta slow shutter speed treatment in dim conditions. Maybe a half or one second? I'm always looking for mossy streams like that too. Searching for "Bear Creek" on topozone.com in California shows Bear Creeks in 34 different California counties including where you are at in Tulare. No doubt very popular creek name in all states.

Hey Dave !
Some data on the Bear Creek shot...
Canon 20D, 17-40mm L at 40mm
0.5 sec., f/16, Iso 100, Mirror Lock Up
Tripod and remote shutter release
This is on the back road(Bear Creek Road) to Balch Park (Mountain Home State Forest) There are a couple of really nice streams on the road to Blue Ridge (It Ts off of the Balch Park road) Heavily wooded Oak canopies over mossy rocks and the stream.
Another good mossy rock/ stream area is Tyler Creek... it's off of the road to Parker Pass, just a little NE of California Hot Springs.
Tyler Creek
There are also a lot of CA Newts around this area.
