Cherry Creek+Jack Main Canyon+Merced Lake TR
Nice. When called on Friday to get a permit the lady said "Kibbie Lake is full and so is Eleanor".
To which I responded "don't wanna go there and I guess a lot of people want to flop around in the snow".
Surprised like heck to see absolutely no cars at Shingle Springs or lower on Saturday morning.
Went here:

Have fun

Hi Bill
Welcome to HST!
Thanks for posting your TR, and pictures, especially the rooster. I didn't know they were
indigenous to the Cherry Creek area.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

Re: Cherry Creek Canyon TR
Uh.. ok. It's David's fault, he mentioned someone posted a pix of Kibbie and I found it here...
and then you made me register to see the Mattie pix.
Anyway, if ppl are interested can poke around picasa site.
Best Trip so far this year was Jack Main though, 2 weeks ago:

Ok, maybe this one with the wifie was ok too:

Enjoy

Re: Cherry Creek Canyon TR
Hi Bill
These TR's really give us the flavor of what people should be expect when going out this
time of the year.
The April trip to Merced Lake must have been really fun, really liked seeing the falls
with snow at the bottom, also seeing Merced Lake still frozen.
The trip up to Wilma Lake, thru Jack Main, and Vernon Lake still mostly frozen are all
unique to see under these condition.
How many days did you spend out on each trip?
Thanks again for posting!

Re: Cherry Creek+Jack Main Canyon+Merced Lake TR
Merced Lake was a leisurely 4 day trip.
Jack Main was 4 days also. 2 difficult days followed by 2 almost lounging days.
Done a lot more (it's been an obsession since started doing this 15 yrs ago) already this year...
If anyone looks a the picasa site they'll know I'm certified nuts. I'll leave it at that.
Have fun

Thank-you for posting those beautiful pictures. I have never backpacked in the snow, but after seeing what you & your wife did, I'm game. I am ready to get up and go!

Loved the rattlers, I have never seen 4 snuggled in together!
