My hiking plans didn't work out, so Friday afternoon I decided to join SnowDude and Mike (there since Thurs). This was Mike's first time in Mammoth and he had a blast!
still working on Sunday's photos (June Mountain)

Expose yourself to your deepest fear; after that, fear has no power, and the fear of freedom shrinks and vanishes. You are free . . . . Jim Morrison

June Mountain got 28" so we went there. The face runs were soft and fluffy!

Saturday: snowed all day, high winds (140+mph gusts), low visibility, warm so couldn't see out of goggles (snow melt)
Sunday: blue skies, no wind, beautiful and fun day!

Vertical Cure Ski-a-Thon for Scleroderma Research
Photos from Fri/Sat: http://community.webshots.com/album/549148051GZkLIT
This is my third year participating in the Vertical Cure Ski-a-thon for Scleroderma Research.
Vertical Cure is a fundraising alpine ski event, challenging participants to ski as many vertical feet as possible in one day. Participants collect charitable pledges based on the total amount skied. The donations will assist in finding a cure for Scleroderma - a chronic, autoimmune tissue disease that currently does not have a cure and affects 300,000 people.
http://www.verticalcure.org
With some training tips from Trekker, I did well in this event. I came in 1st female, 1st snowboarder, 2nd overall with 62K vertical. Two skiers tied for first with 69K. Still waiting for the exact numbers from the organizer.
Still working on photos from the day after

The day after the ski-a-thon: http://community.webshots.com/album/549238439jAeYEc
I started training on the stationary bike March 1st, and what a difference it made! Last year I only did a few runs the day after because my legs were really sore. This year I was on the slopes for over 6 hrs!

Spring Conditions - Mammoth Mountain

First time back in a month and the snow is almost all gone from our front yard. Great spring conditions and plenty of snow on the mountain! A fun and relaxing weekend!

Memorial Weekend - day 1 of 3

Memorial Weekend (day 1 of 3)
Photos: http://community.webshots.com/album/550881337HBJXlu
The slopes were hard, fast, and scary. We went to the top only once. SnowDude's hands were burning from the friction as he slid helplessly from top to bottom (everyone was sliding down). We left shortly after to take the Rubi out on the dirt roads south east of Mono Lake. I had my Desert Summits book and there were a few peaks in the area. Drove to Cowtrack Mountain (8,874'), found a 1890 rock cairn/survey marker, and lost my prescription glasses somewhere between while getting in and out to take pics. Got halibut at Whoa Nellie Deli, and met a forum member (mammoth forum) and said hi to some splitboarders that we rode with last spring. They said the backcountry was pretty bad too.

(day 2 of 3) Granite Mtn dayhike and Mammoth Mtn turns
Sunday, 28 May 2006
Memorial Weekend (day 2 of 3)
Granite Mountain dayhike and Mammoth Mountain turns
Photos: http://community.webshots.com/album/550393203mieLFk
Plan was to hike Granite Mtn (8,920') early, then snowboard in the afternoon. We missed the road to the trailhead and wasted 1.5 hrs driving around. We made it back to Mammoth for 2 runs and earned our turns. Parties after!

Skirt day and Spring Skiing/Riding
Photos: http://community.webshots.com/album/550886157YkVCrd
Its skirt day! And the theme is Hawaiian! Too cold to wear coconuts, but a few of us wore grass skirts, hawaiian shirts and leis! Fun day on the slopes!
