Boomers have been voting in their best interests against those who are younger them pretty consistently. Now, you are asking the youth to make yet another massive sacrifice... You can see how some people are less inclined.
Now, I am not completely heartless but this issue is anything but black and white.
Schmalz,
Not the boomers I hang out with! We certainly didn't support the rise in the cost of higher education as the difference between my college years and my kids is incredible, my friends have consistently supported public schools, supported lower cost medical system. I've supported taxing capital gains at the same rate as my rate for earned income which while not in my personal best interests would be better for the nation as a whole. It is a fallacy that doing so would discourage investment because the benefits of such investing is far more rewarding than a bank account. Exactly how have I voted against the best interests of those younger than me? I have voted for what I believe is in the best interests of all Americans--young, old, black, white, brown, rich, poor, gay, straight. I guess the only people I am agin are people who spew hate and want to discriminate against any segment of society or claim their right to freedom but express no responsibility to others. Oh our recent "stimulus" check from the government? We donated it to charities. Could have used the money but our income needs for the next couple of years are protected so we shouldn't have received it. It would have been immoral to do so.

But I guess from your point of view if we die 10 years early that lessens demands on the social security, medicare, and hospitals in the long run not to mention opening up housing opportunities for younger folks. Probably for your benefit we should just take a long walk off a short dock since we are an economic drag on the country.
I hope you have a nice long, happy life. This doesn't have any bearing on the statistical fact that coronavirus will only kill 0.1%-0.2% of infected patients.
Ughhh it has killed 0.2% of.new York county... POPULATION. So your idea hinging on very low deathrates is bogus unless you're assuming >100% infection rate in NY county.

Like I get that people are hoping for a different outlook than what we see now .. but if your hope is pinned on ignoring 7th grade mathematics... I think you'd better reconsider.

The population of New York City/County is 8.4 million. 0.2% of NY County is 168,000. So I can't help but feel that a wire got crossed somewhere.

Try it with me:
8,400,000 x 0.002 = 16,800.
As of this writing 15,869 people in new York county have died of covid19.

And in the end, you still ended up wrong. Sucks, don't it?

An estimated 13.9% of the New Yorkers have likely had Covid-19, according to preliminary results of coronavirus antibody testing released by Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Thursday.
The state randomly tested 3,000 people at grocery stores and shopping locations across 19 counties in 40 localities to see if they had the antibodies to fight the coronavirus, indicating they have had the virus and recovered from it, Cuomo said.
With more than 19.4 million people residents, according to U.S. Census data, the preliminary results indicate that at least 2.7 million New Yorkers have been infected with Covid-19.

No, he's right. The data out of NYC points to fatality being much closer to 1% than 0.2%, which is unfortunate.

No demographic group "votes" for policy; our representatives do. There are boomers of all political stripes. There are also some pretty conservative young people and those who are benefiting from current laws. The problem is that our electoral system is awash in special-interest money. By definition "special interest" means an elite group and those with more money (the winners in this system) have an over-sized influence. Until our system of electing our representatives becomes truly representative of the population, there will be inequities and bad public policy.
Stereotyping demographic groups has gained a grip in "popular culture"; it is "click bait". A lot of boomers just happened to reap the benefits of luck; a lot did not. Most of us boomers are also parents and grandparents an deeply care that younger people have similar opportunities. And there is also a lot of unfair stereotyping of "millennials". A lot of internet communication and forums seem to foster divisiveness; I am very grateful that our HST for the most part, does not. Thank you moderators!
