I agree with WD if your goals are views. I liked Telephone Gulch, but that's just me and some of that canyon is just snake infested. You'll only get what i'd call a view when you hit 4th of july lk, and at that it's still uphill from there. We did that whole canyon from Salt Springs up and from Carson Pass down. A fun place if you go to enjoy the canyon, but you won't make miles fast on your specified route.
Either path would be fun, but the PCT is more timely with less obstacles.

I say stick to the PCT. The TYT made more sense many (many) years ago when the trails were maintained which they haven't been in a long time. Repeat, stick to the PCT.
