What's in a name? A lot when it comes to Sierra Nevada

A place to explore the natural setting (geology, flora & fauna), people, constructed infrastructure and historical events that play and have played a part in shaping the Sierra Nevada as we know it today.

We call people by the name they prefer and attempt to pronounce their name in the manner they prefer, out of respect - once we learn of these preferences. The same applies to geographical names. The following Youtube underscores a POV mentioned in the article Maia shared with us, that the respectful way to refer to a geographic region is the way the locals refer to it themselves. Paying homage to regional vernacular is a small step to breaking down social barriers and earning other's trust. It is a sign of respectable, social grace.

FWIW: there are at least three ways to pronounce Appalachia, but only one is "correct".

So, yea, it's the Sierra or Sierra Nevada.
