Ben Schifrin "Emigrant Wilderness and Northwestern Yosemite" map?

Post by karstn »

I recently bought the book by Ben Schifrin "Emigrant Wilderness and Northwestern Yosemite". It's still frequently referred to in this forum, including trail names. Unfortunately, the book came without the map and I could not find a copy with the map.
Does anyone know of a scan of this map? Or is it useless anyways given that it's over 30 years old? (I guess trail conditions change, but topography not so much, and much of the hiking is off-trail anyways.)
If there's a better option (map of Emigrant Wilderness), I'd be curious to hear that as well.

I just like staring at maps :-)

Tom Harrison's map of Emigrant Wilderness is pretty good---and offers a lot more information than most previous maps---both mileages between each point, and elevation of each junction.

I think the map is pretty significant. The route descriptions are tied to the map. It makes using the guide a lot easier. It is also nice to have off-trail routes located. Where did you buy the book? I think it is out of print now. I have the maps and could take photos on my I-phone and e-mail them to you. Send a PM with your e-mail to me. It would be better if you could actually find the maps. The fishing information especially is outdated. But you can refer to the state fish map from F&G.

Years ago I found an abandoned map while backpacking, but I do not think it was the Emigrant one. I will check, and if it was, I could send it to you.

Just checked and the extra map I found is the Harrison Emigrant map.

I dug deeper and I DO have an old duplicate map! It is not the waterproof version. So also put in your address and I can send it to you.

I have the original book that came with the map. Map was paper. Over the course of countless trips in Emigrant, my map was destroyed. Wished I'd laminated it. If anyone has an extra, or picts of it, I would love them. Just got back from a trip there, and could have used that map!
