I always buy my hard shell parkas oversize for two reasons:
Accommodates insulation layers without compressing them.
You can draw your hands up into the sleeves to get them out of the rain.
When I am not hiding my hands in the sleeves, I fold the wrist cuff back one roll, so it is out of the way.

I have hiked with poles for the last 16 years and can't figure out how to keep my hands under sleeves and hold poles.

Who can't do everything he used to and what he can do takes a hell of a lot longer!
