Don't be so hard on yourself, Dave.
WD's flora does have a violet shift to it. That could be from any number of causes, from lighting, variation in the color range of the species, weather influences, lifecycle stage of the flora, exposure settings, to whatever camera technology WD used in these images from 2006. I had to crack some books to satisfy my own curiosity. Sharp dude, that Harlen guy!
