Looks like we will have a rest day between Tuolumne and Red's. Any suggestions for somewhere along that stretch to take it?
Thanks.
Doug

Certainly, the canyon that Ediza sits in is gorgeous, but with camping restrictions and generally lots of people in that area, I'd also suggest Marie Lakes. Like Ediza, once you get to Marie, there are several opportunities for excursions to upper lakes, etc. Plus, the meadow below Marie is nearly as pretty as the the one rising beyond Ediza. The minor downside is that the trail (well, it's a bit rough) to Marie from the JMT is a bit steeper than to Ediza, but I think that also keeps the crowds down...

Davis Lakes are another alternative that are also scenic and are away from the crowds. I seem to recall that the hike from the JMT to Davis Lakes is very easy, but it's been awhile (20 years) since I did the trip, and there were many more vivid memories of that trip (to climb Mt. Rodgers) that largely erased anything I recall about that short segment of the hike (hyperextension of a knee being one, running out of food was another).
Since my fishing (etc.) website is still down, you can be distracted by geology stuff at: http://www.fresnostate.edu/csm/ees/facu ... ayshi.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

JMT
I JUST DID THE JMT ALONG ROUTE YOU ARE GOING AND WE DID FIND SOME NICE CAMPSITES NEAR DAVIS LAKE TRAILHEAD WITH GOOD WATER SOURCES. DAVIS LAKE IS ABOUT 3 1/2 MILES SOUTH OF DONAHUE PASS ON JMT
