Keep watch on recreation.gov each morning. Anyone who cancels, their permit slots get reposted daily. This is how I scored my JMT/ Cottonwood permits last summer.

wonder if the cancellations get put in as they arrive, or if there is a standard time each day they get added--a la 7AM shotgun start...
