TR: Piute Pass Trail to Loch Leven - 6/19/19

Post by BardoPond »

Last year we made early reservations in Mammoth for late June. Little did we know, the record snow meant most trails in the Eastern Sierra were still technically closed. After asking around, we decided to get microspikes and poles and see how far we could go.

This was one of the most fun day hikes of the trip. Large sections of the Piute Pass Trail disappeared under the snow, and given the incline were relatively tricky to traverse. Beyond Loch Leven there was more postholing than we were prepared for, so we didn't push further. We didn't encounter a soul in the whole day.

Steep snowy sections of the trail:

I love hiking through snow and finding that one, flat spot of exposed ground to camp on (5th pic). Thanks for the pics.
