Questions about hikes out of Southfork - garfield hockett to hockett lakes

Post by rtd4379 »

My wife and I love Garfield hockett trail but have never gone past Garfield grove. Now we'd like to take Garfield hockett to hockett lakes. I've previously hiked atwell-hockett which obviously required permits. At southfork trailhead there are self issued permits but does that cover us if we want to stay at hockett lakes for a night or does it only mean staying at garfield grove?

You should check with the SEKI rangers, but in general, a permit at the trailhead allows you to keep hiking into new jurisdictions as long as you don't leave the wilderness. Certain exceptions exist, like around Donahue Pass in Yosemite and Mt. Whitney, but I don't think those would apply to you.

We loved hiking in and around Hockett Meadows a few years ago---but we got their via Mineral King.
