Favorite music while driving to or from the Park?

Classical music. There's a couple stations from the Central Valley I listen to. I get reception almost to Olmstead Point. I can also hear one station all the way to Tahoe.

My favorite piece for the Generals Highway is Maurice Ravel's sonata for violin and piano. It's called "Sonate posthume". The Capucon brothers do a nice job playing it. It fits the giant sequoias and views of the Sierra to a T.

Then there's Promised Land by the Hollies. Not classical music, but one of my favorites to listen to as I'm approaching the Sierra from the foothills. Definitely feels that way sometimes.

I've been listening mostly to recent Indie rock. The National, Sleigh Bells, Okkervil River, Neon Indian, Crystal Castles, Flying Lotus, Male Bonding, The Knife, Freddie Gibbs, etc.
You have to be over 50 to appreciate most of this stuff. (BTW, P-Funk is cool too.)

I will listen to music on the trail when I'm exhausted and have/want to go a few more miles, or on unusually dull stretches of trail, or returning to the car coming down some horribly round-about trail like to Onion Valley. For some reason, I always start with Radiohead's "The Bends."

I always regret NOT seeing P-Funk with Bootsy, because I really like Bootsy. That is the most original bass sound I've ever heard. By the time I finally caught a George Clinton show it didn't feature a mothership landing or anything (regrettably), or guitar players with giant diapers. The band was amazing, though. I missed Bootsy but Skeet Collins is an all-star bass player, no doubt. By this time, they also had the virtuoso guitar of Blackbird McKnight--they only gave him one big solo (on Cosmic Slop) but it's the Blackbird and it was worth waiting for. If you are a fan of old school extreme jazz rock guitar (such as Holdsworth, McLaughlin, DiMeola) you owe it to yourself to find some old Blackbird stuff. The signature Blackbird solo is on the track "Silhouette" on the 2nd album "Straight From the Gate" by the fusion jazz group Headhunters, who, as you can guess, were Herbie Hancock alumni (including Paul Jackson bass, Mike Clark drums, Bill Summers percussion).

Yes, I have that album, and like it a lot.
One of my favorite jazz/funk fusion albums was Grover Washington Jr's "Mister Magic"
which I am sure you are familiar with.
