Beautiful area, fun route, solitude, and since you fish, all I will say is, Doe Lake.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

Did you get there via Smedberg? The last time I was there, hiked up to Surprise (no fish) and Sister Lake...but didn't go as far as Doe...

Go it. Thanks. We really do need to get back there again. Matterhorn Canyon is still on our favorite places in the Sierra...

Yeah, that view down Matterhorn Canyon from Burro Pass is just fabulous, one can really really see how the glacier carved out the canyon for miles.Matterhorn Canyon is still on our favorite places in the Sierra...

Re: Question about cross country route Hoover/Yosemite
Hello all. I'm pondering a trip into this area and would like your thoughts:No, by desending Slide Canyon, like Sister and Surprise too, more solitude then Smedberg.
Day 1: Virginia to Soldier or Spiller lake
Day 2: Matterhorn Canyon (somewhere)
Then (after reading this
I want to get myself there. YES. But I'd like suggestions as to the best way. Was thinking about going over Burro Pass and looping back down Slide Canyon. If I get to Doe lake it looks (from the Tom Harrison map) like getting out would be challenging...would it?"all I will say is, Doe Lake."
I have moderate outdoor skills and can route find fairly well; Somewhere on here I read some guidelines about how to rate my own abilities but now I can't find it. In any case, I'll likely be solo and at 58 years old I should be cautious. What are your thoughts?
