Anybody ever see goats used as pack animals?
My lovely wife just bought 2 milk goats at the county fair. I am looking forward to fresh milk, cheese, etc. I saw an Internet article from a guy who packs his goats. He says they can carry 40-50 lbs each. With that weight load, I don't have to carry anything. Has anyone actually seen a pack goat, or any other pack animal other than horse or mule?

Yes I've seen goats and Llamas. There is a guy on another site that has several goats well outfitted for packing.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

Seen it in the eagle cap. They were loose herded and cut switchbacks. Wasn't impressed.

I see Ikan's pic indicates they were loose herded as well. l don't like that except in exceptionally difficult terrain.

Fifty years ago when rules weren't as strict, we took a kid goat on a hike into the Kern headwaters where we ate him. He didn't always stick to the trail, but when he was off-trail he was so nimble that his impact on trail condition was negligible. Knew about Lamas, but goats is new to me.
My daughter is an engineering major at Cal Poly and was big on the robotics team in HS. One thing I'm sure of-by the time she's my age they'll have robots to carry your pack and probably robotic power assist devices to support and give a bit of extra power output for the knees and hips.
