Tomcat_rc showed us a new route (for me) and both guys were great helping me up some of the bigger steps and reaches.

Great pictures Snow Nymph!!! Most of the times I've been up Whitney have been approaching from Guitar Lake... I only tried the M.R. once a couple years ago and had to turn arround after I fell at a stream crossing and thought I broke a rib , so I've never been up that route. But a couple of my brothers and sisters and I are hoping to try it again next summer.
I may be picking your brain next year for suggestions !

SN, Beautiful pictures! The one of the ice crystals is amazing. I bet that was fun for you to learn a new route.
What is the story about those wag bags being left like that? What a horrible thing to do!! it is really sad to me that people can do something like that...I just can't understand it!
Very cool to see the Weasel!

Snow Nymph, great trip and inspiring photos! Maybe one day... I have to read about the Mountaineering Route. I always assumed it was an incredibly foreboading, bare-wall route requiring ropes and highly technical climbing. In your pictures it certainly looked serious and demanding, but yet something that a mortal could do with proper preparation. Perhaps you hid the worst parts?

Rosie, let me know when you try again! Would love to meet up for a warmupup hike or the MR. BobR and Tomcat have been showing me cool routes, so its getting better each trip. Now to figure out how to stretch the arms and legs so I can reach and not depend on anyone to pull me up!
Anita, The ice crystals were pretty! Especially in the water. But it was pretty disgusting seeing the wagbags laying out in the open. Right on the trail! Like the rock is going to cover it, or it will just disappear! The rangers are the ones that end up cleaning it up. The one up the last chute 'might' have fallen out of someone's pack, but the other two on the trail had rocks on it. Sad that grown adults do things like that. The weasel was cool! It was pretty hyper!
Thanks Revhobo, and welcome to Topix! I didn’t get too many photos of the exposure this time. I was concentrating on keeping up with these guys! Its really not that bad . . . the hardest part is the elevation gain in such a short distance :retard: (if altitude bothers you). Here are some other photos that show a little more exposure:

Hmmm, I guess this year is 5 times via the MR for me!

Revhobo, Seems every trip I learn a new route! Hope you make it up there one of these days!

Here's BeachAV8R's story of what happened that day.
http://tinyurl.com/gy7g7
He trained hard for his first MR summit, but gave it up to help a group that was in trouble. I only hope that if I ever get into trouble, someone like BeachAV8R will be around to help. (the group he helped out was the SMI guided group that was roping up when we got to the notch. Devon was up there way before us, and saw Eric collapse 3' in front of him) Incredible story. He's a Dan Mazur type hero in my book!
