Mt. Whitney Main Trail & MR Photos: 04/27/13
Patrick (Lilbitmo) and I dayhiked Mt. Whitney and several needles & pinnacles last Friday (April 27th). We went up the Main Trail and down the Mountaineers Route. I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

How was the snow between ice berg lake and the portals on the MR side? I'm guessing not much?

UPDATE on MT & MR CONDITIONS for those heading up soon:
I hiked up the Mountain yesterday (Sunday May 12). The several days of snowfall last week have left much more snow on Mt Whitney compared to April 27. (Thanks for that excellent report!)Yesterday no party was seen on the switchbacks on the MT. There was nearly continuous snow from Trail Crest to the summit plateau with a well established boot track (except from behind the Keeler needle to the plateau). The scramble route up Muir had patches of snow.
Yesterday there was much more snow in the MR above East Face Lake. The final 400' chute had quite a bit of snow.
As usual, at the end of a long day the refreshment and good company at the Whitney Portal Store was appreciated.
