Really enjoyed the photos & TR. It's very cool that you got to do this trip with your father; I'm sure it was a real highlight for him.

Great report. Glad you guys had a good time. I've never been to that area, although it's on my 'list'. Thanks!

Some really nice photos. Beautiful area. I think it is cool the way you scaled the trip to something that your dad could enjoy, rather than putting him thru a too strenuous outing.

Schmalz, excellent TR and a heart warming story to go with it. The times you & your dad have spent together in the mountains must be precious memories for you both. After years of rambling around the Sierra, I realized I'd never been to Shadow or Thousand, so I soloed on the same loop trail you followed; that route seems almost compelling up there. I was able to include Minaret Lake and day hikes to see the N. Fork San Joaquin country and Donohue Pass, as well. It was August, early 90's, and not too crowded but filled with some fine encounters with interesting people - - an Irishman straight from Dublin to spend his birthday at Iceberg, a group of Germans who sang beer drinking songs around their evening campfire, a retired newlywed couple (yes!) hiking the TYT, and the bass player for the Oakland Symphony, among others. What a wonderful place! Thanks for sharing your visions in such beautiful pix.
Let 'er Buck! Back in Oregon again!
