I did this nice little loop out of Wolverton this past weekend. Lots of people on the trail even though we're now outside of the quota period, but once you get past Pear Lake the crowds thin out considerably and there's some great scenery.

We just missed each other. I did Panther gap - Alta Peak - Pear Lake out of Wolverton on the same days (TR to come). Did you happen to see the Mountain Lion tracks between Mehrten Meadows and Panther gap?

Yep, looks like a bunch of us were up there.
We stayed at Moose Saturday night - it was just gorgeous up there with the full moon on the water.
I saw bear tracks on the trail between the Lakes/Alta junction and the trailhead. We were following them for about 3/4 of a mile.
I did Wolverton/Alta Peak/Pear earlier this year - that was a fun one too. This year we walked up the dry Kaweah to Table Meadow, wandered out the ridge, stayed at Moose, went down to Alta Meadow (trail all gone!) and out from there. As last year, one of our hikers got a bit sick and needed some TLC. But it all ended well.

Didn't see any lion tracks, but by the time we reached the Mehrten Meadows area we were pretty engrossed in conversation and not paying too much attention around us.

The tracks were fresh, on top of the hoof prints from the pack horses that came down Friday evening. I am sure that the 15-20 dayhikers that did Alta Peak Saturday wiped them out without ever even noticing them.
