Channel Islands
I took a trip to Santa Barbra Island last week, we met-up with lots of dolphins and whales on the trip over. My favorite thing is watching the dolphins ride the front of the boat. Here’s a few trip pictures.

The dolphins in the air are pretty cool!

Doug, Its great to see you have enjoyed your trips to the outer islands. I am a hopeless Santa Rosa Island junkie, having recently completed a beach camp trip to the backside. I have not visited Santa Barbara Island, but would like to do that trip in the spring when the Giant Coreopsis is in bloom. Great pictures, thanks for sharing.

Freestone - Santa Rosa is my favorite island, I’m going back in a few weeks. Where did you go on the backside, hike or kayak? I’ve been looking into options for a backcountry trip. I’d like to get out to SBI for the Coreopsis bloom too, haven’t been able to find transportation that early in the season.

I am aiming for a trip to Rosa on the mid October weekend run. Skunk Point is open to visitors, now that the Snowy Plover nesting season is over, so that is on the top of my "to see" list this for this trip. My previous trip was "by land" to the beaches on the backside. The hike is challenging and the area is filled with Chumash aura, California history and many very thirsty, tense moments with an occasional high tide dilemma that can befall this type of backpacking. Contact the CINP office in Ventura to plan your adventure, its not the same procedure as booking the campground in Water Canyon. Wingding... visit the CINP webpage or do a search for "island Packers", they have a complete offering of trips to all the islands. They do a great job in making the crossing as comfortable and interesting as possible given the everchanging sea/air conditions in the channel.

Kathy, Island Packers makes regular trips to Santa Cruz and Anacapa all year long, the outer islands go by I.P.’s schedule April through October. Anacapa and Santa Cruz are nice January to March when things are green, less crowded.
