TR: Sabrina > Moonlight Falls (6/9 > 6/10)
Had another great weekend in the Sierra last weekend. Clear blue skies, barely any mosquitoes, and a surprising lack of crowds. Already itching to get back up there tomorrow. Destination: Dusy Basin.
Here is the full trip report from last weekend:

Very nice TR Schmalz, especially the dog photo's. That whole area has some very
prime photo spots that are worth seeking out.
Sailor Lake has one of the best views in that area as do some of the lower ridges above
the lakes.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

Such a beautiful area I have not yet been to...How does Callie do with her pack on? She is so very sweet and looks like a great companion while out there....A very happy doggie!
You are so lucky to have her to hike with..I miss my dogs terribly not being able to take them on hikes and backpacking trips..it is such a joy to have them with you.
Thank you for sharing..Picture Peak is stunning!

madeintahoe - Thanks for the kind words. To answer your question, Callie does just fine with a pack on. When I first pull it out, she still cowers and pretends like she hates it, but once it is on she is fine. She runs around the trail and has never seemed to lack the adequate energy or spirit. I have yet to take her on an extended trip though, so we'll see how she handles that. My main concern is always her paws wearing down and getting cut. Hopefully she's been properly broken in because I'm taking her out for 5 days in a couple of weeks.

Once again, great TR and pix, schmalz! What a super area to absorb all that the High Sierra has to offer. Thanks for sharing.

Great pics and TR. Wow, it looks like August should in the high country!
Base camped in Sabrina Basin two summers ago. That was the first base camp I have ever participated in and I'll have to say, it was fun to explore and have our "home" in a location that I regularly day hike to.
We, too, had a doggie packer along. She is a working dog and thinks when she has a pack that she is working. She also gets a little mopey when her pack is first put on.
Close to where you were waiting for the sunset, we pulled our sleeping bags out onto the granite and watched the Perseid meteor shower. (The dog couldn't figure out what we were doing.)
FYI...the granite trailwork was done by the YCC in 1989.

Great photos. Looks like a good trip.
I've concocted a lot of backpacking dinners by mixing various things with mashed potatoes, but never bourbon.I enjoyed a standard backpacking dinner of instant mashed potatoes and bourbon.

Actually, I always preferred my instant mashed potatoes with dehydrated whiskey. . . .
