Dinkey Lake Trip Report
Awhile back I made some inquires about where to take my son on his first overnight hike. I finally decided on Dinkey lakes. Well let me first say thanks again for all the help!
We had a wonderful time, despite the presence of the skeeters which where terrible the first day. My 4 year old son did a great job. He struggled a little the first day (I think due a lot to the elevation), but walked the entire way on his own and carried his small hydration pack and snacks most of the way. We caught a fair amount of good size brookies. My boy had a smile on his face the entire time. Sometimes it was hard to see behind all of the bugs. On the way out the next day he only needed a couple breaks and we made it out in good time. Here are a couple photos of our trip.
Now to prepare for a big boy trip to Evolution Basin!!!!

Great trip. It doesn't get any better than that! Uh, until they begin to carry more than you!

Brings back memories of trips with my dad. I'm sure the Brookies weren't that big though, thanks for sharing.

I have twin boys that are younger. Gear spread between the three of them when they get older and I might only have to carry a water bottle and some camera gear. Maybe I will wait on those llamas:)

Great report and love the pictures of the kid. I'll admit I spent more than a few seconds trying to estimate the size of the fish by extrapolating from the size of your son's hands. I don't remember the brookies being that big whenever I visit the Dinkey Lakes! Anyway, this is a great area to get a kid hooked on wilderness fishing; the Dinkey Lakes were my introduction to the backcountry and I've been enamored ever since.

Dude, I totally ran into you on the trail! Remember the big guy and the gal hiking up when you were leaving, on the trail near First Dinkey?
I have seen brookies that big - they make some good eating, too.
Good to see even the younger kids on the trail - and enjoying it so much.
