The bridge a couple miles in from the trailhead was washed out as of early June. Is it back in service? If not, does anyone know of a time estimate for a repair?

One more bit of info. You can safely cross the stream near where the bridge was, or at the stock crossing a bit downstream. But you will get your feet wet.

Per the Inyo NF website: Recreational Activities - White Mountain Ranger District 6/28/2008 (http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/inyo/recreation ... -mtn.shtml)
New! Bridge Washed Out by Avalanche
White Mountain Ranger District reports that the bridge at the first water crossing on McGee Creek has been displaced during the winter by an avalanche. Located approximately 2 1/2 miles from the McGee Creek trailhead, the bridge was a welcome site for hikers since it's placement there in 2003. The log remains downstream but hikers are cautioned not to use this unsafe bridge to cross the creek. The best crossing is 1/2 mile down stream at the stock/horse crossing. The time frame for replacement of the bridge is unknown at this time.

Re: McGee Canyon Bridge
FWIW I recall years ago hiking in early/mid season up McGee and reaching the stream crossing (something like 1995?) before there was a bridge. There was a slippery and quite scary looking log we used to cross the creek. It was doable, relatively short, and not that bad of a crossing even though it terrified the heck out of me. At the time, it looked better than the stock crossing.
