Finger Col

Post by Spicer'sVet »

erutan: We're heading to Blackcap Basin in 3 days and are thinking of heading over Finger Col towards Goddard Creek, if conditions are favorable.

That 2nd pic from the bottom looks a bit tricky, trying to squeeze around those boulders and ledges. Do you have a best description on how to get down from the Col heading east? Seems like one needs to angle south a bit before heading back northeast...

There’s a great description of finger Col in this trip report:

I found it useful in addition to the Finger Col page on HST for understanding how to navigate this pass. We plan to cross finger col likely this Sunday, then head north through Blackcap Basin and over into Upper Bench Valley. Say hello if you see us and we’ll be happy to provide a report of our experience there.

Here are some mediocre photos of Finger Col taken on August 27 of this year. I will let you draw your own conclusions from them, with the caveat that conditions may have changed in the past week. The top of the pass posed no special difficulties — and I say that as someone who feels uncomfortable on genuine Class 3 stuff.
