Russ Lown (Russ)
With great sadness and shock, I must announce the sudden passing of "Russ," my friend and long-time HST member.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

Man, that's a shocker. Hadn't Russ just moved to northern Cal, and embarked a new life, full of boating and fishing. We can only hope that his last times on Earth were deeply satisfying, and that he passed on easily. I reckon Russ packed a lot into his life. Here's to you Russ.

I'm saddened to hear this. I remember interacting with Russ since HST migrated over to this new board in 2006 (when I joined) and have always appreciated his spirit and candor.

Devastated by the news of his passing. When I read something about Puppet Lake, I will think of him. I could tell he loved it there.

Russ just did move on to enjoy himself given health issues and all. He was MR Puppet/Humphey's Basin; I too like it. Rest in peace my man...

This is such a shock. I'm at a loss for words. Windknot, freestone, austex, and Harlen all said what passed through my mind.

Damn! I liked his crusty (in a good way) presence here, on HST. There are certain HST members whose posts I read because THEY wrote it. Russ was one on my list, starting from the first day I visited HST. One of my favorite posts he aimed my way was: "You appear to be overthinking the process". Period. Deadpan serious, deadpan humorous, and to the point.

First Mark and now Russ two of the several Members of HST that I have spent time in the backcountry with and will miss with all my heart. Certainly miss our telephone conversations as well. Also a reminder of my mortality and wondering how many backcountry days I have left. A lesson to us all--do it while we can.
