Mono Creek - Third Recess water crossing?

Post by SirBC »

Does anyone have any information on what the Mono Creek crossing at third recess is like? I've never been so am wondering if it will be an issue with the high water levels this year.

We did this a few days ago. We changed into crocs and had no issues getting across. The water was just below the knee at it's deepest.

Hiking up Mono Creek from Edison Lake August 7th, the Laurel Creek crossing was too high for us to risk, so we didn't get to Third Recess as planned. Mono Creek at the Second Recess trail was even worse, so we ended up heading up to Laurel Lake instead. Another hiker, hoping to get to Gabbot Pass also felt Mono was too sketchy. I guess it depends on your skill/experience and where you are on the map.
