Hike part of the TST for summer 2023.

Post by treks »

My experience:
  • Location: All in the Sierra.
  • Time: Late June to mid September.
  • Level: High 2, some 3
  • Types: A lot of back country, some cross country and with pass traversals.
  • Snow and Temp: Light late summer or early fall snow. 15F lows.
  • River crossings: Very slow since it is early to late summer.
I'm interested in hiking part of the Theodore Solomon Trail (https://caltopo.com/m/LCB0) for the cross country travel experience and isolation. The constraint is 5 days but doing as a loop and entering in at Mineral King are negotiable.

Appreciate any advice or experience sharing. Didn't really find any posts on here for the TST.

Thanks Paul. Sorry, I should have said I didn't find info related to taking it in sections. Those 2 TRs were really helpful for me to get a sense of the lay and then the Caltopo to boot.

There a few areas where I could reconnect to established trail for a loop but I'm not sure how difficult they will be. Doing my best at reading the contours and satellite. Also, the map overlays available are pretty misleading in terms of the trail types. Basically a lot of variables that comes with these type of hikes but that's the way it goes right? 😁
