Air Tanker in Yosemite nearly hit be falling tree branch.

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

Air Tanker in Yosemite nearly hit be falling tree branch.

Post by dave54 »

This is wild!
During retardant operations on the Washburn Fire in Yosemite, a pilot reported a tree branch falling past his plane.

The fire updraft lofted it up, to descend downwind from the fire. This article has a link to the air-to-air conversation.

Dave, Thanks for pointing this out and thanks to all the tanker pilots! (fixed and rotary wing) Part of the job, risk and adrenaline that goes with the job.... Being of aviation background I salute the cause. Just one of those unknowns. :drinkers:
