Whitney Lottery 2/1

Post by maverick »

Inyo NF:
The Mt. Whitney Lottery will be open starting February 1.
Applications are accepted on-line from February 1 through March 15 via recreation.gov at: https://www.recreation.gov/permits/233260
As a reminder, submit one application per group. Groups or households that submit multiple applications will be rejected.
Full details are here: https://www.fs.usda.gov/.../passes-permits/recreation/....
Mt. Whitney is a non-technical hike when there is no snow. Otherwise, winter mountaineering skills are needed to summit (ice ax, crampons, prepared for avalanches, etc.). The significant snowpack may require winter skills well into the summer this year.
Careful planning is needed to summit Mt. Whitney or to complete other wilderness hikes. Check out this information from Inyo County SAR: https://inyosar.com/wp-content/uploads/ ... R-2020.pdf

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

Have a safer backcountry experience by using the HST ReConn Form 2.0, named after Larry Conn, a HST member: http://reconn.org
