I'm in the same boat. Have permits and a campsite for nf big pine in a few weeks and was gonna introduce my girlfriend to the Sierra. Now I'm thinking about camping and day hiking in Utah like the Dixie national forest. Last year my nephew flew out from NJ for a Sept backpacking trip but had to change plans to Bryce Canyon.

I guess going fwd if I want to enjoy the Sierra I'll need to go earlier in the season and just deal with the crowds and skeeters.
