Backup plans! Look into the Trinity Alps (though that's been getting on fire recently, too). Southern Oregon, the coast (lost coast comes to mind) or anywhere where there isn't smoke. It may very well be that the entire state is shrouded in smoke like last August. If that's the case, have a backup plan for somewhere in the west like CO or WA. Fires are common all over the west, but one area where it's 'less bad' is usually the Pacific Northwest. Yeah, it's been bad there, too but their drought conditions aren't as severe and places like the Olympic Peninsula are consistently moist enough to prevent major fires. No guarantees of course. It's all about chance. The chances are just lower the further north and west you go.
