Split Mountain (6,835') in the Southern Sierra

Dayclimbed Split Mountain (6,835') in the Southern Sierra with the KRVHC. Met new people, hiked in a new area (for me), beautiful day for a hike, and best of all I felt great!

It was great to finally meet you and Rachel! Maybe next year I will get to meet more of the elusive eastsiders.
You got nice photos of the pictographs. I thought about Larry's theory that the closely spaced vertical lines mark where the sun hits each day. Since that is the north side of the rock, maybe we need a new theory.

Hi Alice,
I've seen you thru Tomcat's albums, so it was nice to finally meet you! Would like to join your group for more trips!
The windey road out to Bakersfield killed me! There were a few slow areas (5-10mph), but I made it home by 8pm. SnowDude drove back from Mammoth in the usual 5 hrs, so I guess from now on I'll take the east route back (more familiar)
What a great weekend!

Wheeler Crest Offroading

We took the Rubi and the Cooler out for some offroading. The Cooler followed the Rubi all over, and went up stuff I didn’t think it could do! The Rubi has a 3'' lift and 33'' tires. The Cooler did fine, but I would like to add a few fun things to it for offroading! Fun day!

Oh yah, Trecker! I just saw it in the new R.E.I. catalog supplement for last-minute christmas gifts. It's the newest thing for versatile climbing gear. You can wear it, sleep on it, make a shelter with it.... one of these and you're ready to go! It's on my Christmas list!
Cori - looks like another fun trip! I always enjoy your albums and trip reports.

umm, SnowDude snuck up on me, that's one of those rare moments in the kitchen. He gets a kick out of seeing me cook. This was the first weekend he had off in a long time, so I had to make it special, right? I guess I could have put something sexier on. btw, I can cook, I just did all my cooking when I was younger. I cooked breakfast two mornings, that was a treat for him! I'm over cooking now, and would rather spend time doing other things, like getting ready for the weekend! Which is what I should be doing right now.
Trekker knows fleece! Hey, it was cold up there! I still have my black fleece jacket on under that robe, and a few other layers. That's why I'm so puffy!
Rosie, I can make a tent or a sleeping bag out of it. I curl up and wrap it around with only my head sticking out on those rare nights I watch movies at the condo.

SnowDude wanted to hike the Mono Craters. I did this on my birthday weekend but it’s a nice hike and views are awesome! Nice day but it was really cold out.

Bodie Mountain, Potato Peak, Mount Biedeman in the Bodie Hills
PHOTOS: http://snownymph.smugmug.com/gallery/3907455#226700871
We decided to check out some of Zdon’s peaks in the Bodie Mountains. Since this wasn’t planned, we didn’t have maps or waypoints. The book said 8 mi to hike Bodie Mt and Potato Peak, but we were in the Rubi and kept driving up some rough roads (“I can get up that . . .â€
