Bear Alert SEKI (Rae Lakes Loop)

Post by maverick »

SEKI NP:
BEAR ALERT!

We've received multiple reports of bears obtaining food from backpackers along the Rae Lakes Loop. All wilderness visitors have a duty to protect wild bears. All food and other scented items must be stored in bear-resistant containers in this part of the parks -- obtain one outside of the parks before your trip. Do not rely on food storage lockers. If a bear comes into camp, scare it away by making loud noises and throwing small objects towards it.

More helpful information can be found on the parks' website www.nps.gov/seki/planyourvisit/bear_bc.htm

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

Have a safer backcountry experience by using the HST ReConn Form 2.0, named after Larry Conn, a HST member: http://reconn.org
