Ridgeline, you'll have to come with us to see where it is
MiT, Spanky sat quietly in the pack, knowing I didn't feel like putting up with any monkey business.
CG, Memorial weekend!
Rosie, we'll put a trip together next time you're out.
Tomcat, great photo of the giant mosquito. Mine didn't come out. They seemed to liked that bright blue shirt. Great pix and great trip!

The day after Gamblers

Mazourka Peak (9,209’) and a short hike in the Sierra
PHOTOS: http://snownymph.smugmug.com/gallery/2855354#153160390
The untracked snow in Onion Valley was too soft, and we didn't feel like postholing after a 15 hr hike the day before. So we ended our hike early. I still had time and looked in Zdon's book for an easy hike. Mazourka Peak (9,209') was listed as "one of the few drive up peaks that provides the kind of views and serenity that desert peaks have to offer." It was 20 miles each way. Cool stuff in Mazourka Canyon, including an oasis, and also a memorial.

this last Sunday -
going for week 23 in a row hiking to 10k feet or above(3 more to go to reach 26 and then things can settle down). Saturday got tied up with chores and the storms in the Sierras did not look too inviting - so I had to change my Sunday plans. Sunday 09-23-2007; Bob R., Bob H., Bill S. and I hiked up to the Gamblers Special. this was my second time up there this year. we ascended the chute from the south side - normally a bit of a scree slog but with Friday and Saturday's light snows it made for a more enjoyable hike up. besides my two trips up this peak this year only one other ascent was made(GigaMike solo). some fantastic picutres - I only wish I had taken more - sometimes the camera does not capture what the mind visualizes.
picts from Sunday's hike:

ty Quentinc - something about the first day out after a snow is stunning - while the snow is still clinging to trees and edges - spectacular.
you have been getting out to some pretty awesome areas yourself this year - congrats on a good season.
