Anybody have an info on the Colby Pass?
I'll be headed out there in 2 weeks and want to make sure I can get over the pass without an ice ax and crampons. Any insight from trip reports would be greatly appreciated.

When are you heading out?
I'm packing up to head out to that area today via Shepherd (Most likely returning the same way, but I might take Junction back), but there's a good chance I'll be getting home a day or so after you head out.

I'll be headed there in early August, so I'd love to hear a conditions report, too. Thursday's satellite image looks promising.

Looks like my plans've changed. Was looking to approach the meet-up from the east side, but since I'm having to delay by a day and need to take a less ambitious approach, I likely won't be crossing Colby. Doesn't look like it'd be easy to incorporate it in a loop that heads back west, but I'll give it some more thought.

You might want to check out TSX Challenge on Facebook. They have a group out right now that will probably going over Colby Pass in a couple of days. They've been using a Garmin Inreach to post daily reports to their Facebook page. Their post from last night was from Big Wet Meadow.

Heh, guessed it right on the nose. I just got home early this afternoon.
Sadly, I didn't get any info on Colby. The conditions this week were...less than ideal, so I ended up going with a much less ambitious itinerary.

There was a report today on the Sierra Nevada Current Conditions Facebook page that Colby (along with Franklin and Elizabeth) went with just microspikes and trekking poles.

The pass had a bit of snow on the west side but nothing to be concerned with. This was 10 days ago
