Cottonwood Pass 7/4

Post by blaybelay »

For anyone interested I went over cottonwood pass on the 4th of July and it was almost entirely clear of snow. There was a small section of about 10 feet of snow at the very top but it was neither difficult nor dangerous to travers.

Additionally Chicken Springs Lake was about 60% melted. Lots of open spots were available to setup camp.

We also went down the back side of Cottonwood Pass towards Big Whitney Meadow and there was zero snow. It's absolutely beautiful at Big Whitney Meadow right now.

Between my wife and I we only carried a 16oz water bottle the entire trip. There was plenty of water everywhere so no need to stock up 2 to 3 liters of water for the trip.
