Walker Canyon Poppies etc.
Today, on our way back to Poway from Bakersfield, Robin and I took the I-15 route and stopped at Walker Canyon just outside Lake Elsinore. The poppies and other wildflowers are certainly going off this year in a big way. We had just a momentary hassle finding a parking spot but that was soon forgotten as we enjoyed the beauty of God's creation on display. It was well worth the stop

Re: Walker Canyon Poppies etc.
Hey Richard, we just missed you, or perhaps not. We also went out today to avoid the weekend crowds, which must be insane. I have done the Lancaster and Anza Borrego fields in the past, and NOTHING matches this year. I could not believe how dense the poppies were, and the mixture of purple, blue-greens, whites and yellows was just beyond crazy. I also got to finally see close-up a painted lady butterfly (last picture). In Los Angeles we have seen massive numbers of these butterflies all over the city, like nothing I have ever experienced before. Perhaps nature has a chance after all.

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

Make a note though. The city has been closing down access because it was overrun. They even brought in law enforcement from other jurisdictions due to massive "invasion."
