And a few hundred feet closer to outer space. Lucky I had a 1 person tent this year - there is no space for two

Holy cow! That must have been a rough sleeping spot.

Not really. Totally flat at that spot, about 50 feet from the summit. Nicely protected from the wind by the boulders, although the wind was a bit worrying after sunset. Died down pretty quickly, though. It did get cold, like 24F or so, ice on the tent inside and outside, but I slept warm and cozy. Getting out for nighttime photos required some motivation, though.

And correction - not just a few hundred feet higher than the site below Mather. This is 2400 feet higher than the moon photo camp.

That looks like a real cozy spot. Marmot traffic expected.

Wide open spot here - avoided this last time we went past Rae Lakes because of lightning. Being the lone metal structure on top of the highest point between the lakes didn't feel like such a good idea with the electricity in the air. No such fear this year.

Fishmonger, gosh those camp shots of Rae Lakes are beautiful! Nice variety too. B&W and color. The view from outside the tent. The one mainly of the sky (the one above). I really like the shot with the mountains off in the distance from inside the tent (page before this). Nice!

It's a great site - and I won't share where exactly it is, but anyone who can translate the views of my images to a topo map cn figure it out. 3 minutes off trail and you are setting up in that prime location. Water is 2 minutes down to the north. Just watch for dead fish when you pick a location to filter water :D

The camp the night before - south of Pinchot, some 5 minutes off trail

And a slightly different camp shot angle - more a stove macro. Coffee is about to be served. Rae Lakes before 6 a.m.

One more from south of Forester Pass, about 12.000 feet up at the second lake. I like this angle better than the shot posted on the previous page from the same location.
