Big Island
Spent the first week of May on the Big Island, sunny days with showers at night. Hilo side of the Island was old Hawaii and jungle nice, Kona side was sort-of developers gone wild. My Waipio and Polulu hikes got downsized, left my water proof camera bag in the car and didn’t make the river crossing at Waipio, the coast trail at Polulu sort of fell off the cliff and I had to turn around. Mauna Kea “wowâ€

OK, tell the truth.........you snagged those out of a guide book, didn't you?
Seriously, those are some beautiful pics! I will be on the big Island for a friend's wedding in August. Any hike suggestions?
Oops, just saw the thread preceding this one! Let me rephrase the question; which ones did you do and what was your favorite?

Thanks Trekker and SnowNymph
Trekker - Polulu and Waipio Valley were both great hikes and the only sand beaches I found on the east side. When things are dry the waterfalls in Waipio are not flowing, maybe I took the wrong trail at Polulu. Mauna Kea is the place I wish I spent more time. Other road trip places I liked were Onomea Bay Botanical Gardens and the old village at Lapakahi State Park.
