Like you needed another reason to carry a map...

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

Eric,

That is totally true. My 94 Garmin xl 12 won't even link anymore, but on the boat, it was awesome. My Garmin Rino has been stellar and lasts a full week on it's battery pack, and then there is the spare alkaline pack. Never needed the spare.

What it really comes down to is "who cares!". You go with what your comfortable with based on your experience. I sometimes do just map, sometimes just GPS. And yet I somehow manage to drag myself back here.

Plus, my GPS has the radio, compass, and games :o no, I've never played the games. Maybe if it rains/or snows on me this time.

I use both maps and GPS. Just depends on the nature of the trip which one or both I chose to go with.
