FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY

MONDAY, 31-AUG-09, MORNING REPORT

SMOKE FROM THE STATION WILDFIRE IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA WILL CONTINUE TO EFFECT OUR AREA TODAY AND TOMORROW, AS HIGH PRESSURE CONTINUES TO DOMINATE OUR AREA. WITH THIS, A WEAK DISTRURBANCE WILL PASS THROUGH NORTHERN CALIFORNIA TODAY KICKING UP THE WINDS IN OUR FORAECAST AREA. LATE TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY, A MOISTURE SURGE FROM HURRICANE JIMENA, DOWN BY CABO, COULD GIVE OUR AREA A SHOT AT SOME THUNDERSTORM ACTION AND SHOWER ACTIVITY. HIGH PRESSURE THEN PREVAILS ON THURSDAY AND FRIDAY, WITH A TROUGH PUSHING THROUGH THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST ON SATURDAY. THIS WILL HAVE THE EFFECT OF DROPPING TEMPERATURES THROUGH OUR OUR AREA OVER THE WEEKEND.

FOR THE OWENS VALLEY:

TODAY: MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES. HIGHS AROUND 94. WINDS SW 10 - 15 MPH.
TONIGHT: MOSTLY CLEAR. LOWS IN THE MID 50S. WINDS SW 10 - 20 MPH.
TUESDAY: MOSTLY SUNNY. HIGHS NEAR 93. WINDS W 9 MPH.
TUESDAY NIGHT: PARTLY CLOUDY. LOWS IN THE MID 50S. WINDS SW 6 - 11 MPH.

FOR THE MAMMOTH LAKES AREA:

TODAY: MOSTLY SUNNY. HIGHS IN THE UPPER 60S. WINDS SW 10 - 20 MPH G 30.
TONIGHT: MOSTLY CLEAR. LOWS IN THE MID 40S. WINDS SW 5 - 15 MPH G 25.
TUESDAY: BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY WITH A SLIGHT CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. HIGHS IN THE LOW 70S. WINDS SW 5 - 15 MPH.
TUESDAY NIGHT: SLIGHT CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. LOWS IN THE MID 40S. WINDS SW 5 - 15 MPH G 25.
