FORECAST 27-AUG-09

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
KSRW 92.5 / 96.5 FM AND TV-33

THURSDAY, 27-AUG-09, MORNING REPORT

AN UPPER LEVEL RIDGE CENTERED OVER THE DESERT SOUTHWEST REMAINS IN PLACE AND EVEN STRENGTHENS TODAY AND TOMORROW CREATING ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES INTO FRIDAY. THE BIG QUESTION NOW IS WILL THE REMNANTS OF TROPICAL STORM IGNACIO EFFECT OUR AREA. RIGHT NOW AT LEAST, I EXPECT SOME HIGH CLOUDS OVER THE CREST LATER FRIDAY AND INTO THE WEEKEND AND THAT'S ABOUT ALL. THE RIDGE WEAKENS THE FIRST PART OF NEXT WEEK AS A SHORTWAVE MOVES THROUGH THE PACNW. THIS WILL DROP TEMPERATURES A BIT AND BRING A FEW MORE CLOUDS INTO OUR AREA. MONO COUNTY COULD SEE A FEW THUNDERSTORMS AND THAT'S ABOUT ALL. DRY CONDITIONS WILL CONTINUE FOR THE OWENS VALLEY THROUGH THIS TIME PERIOD.

FOR THE OWENS VALLEY:

TODAY: SUNNY SKIES. HIGHS AROUND 96. WINDS SE 6 MPH.
TONIGHT: CLEAR. LOWS IN THE MID 50S. WINDS SE 5 MPH.
FRIDAY: SUNNY AND WARMER. HIGHS NEAR 100. WINDS SE 4 - 9 MPH.
FRIDAY NIGHT: SOME CLOUDS OVERHEAD. LOWS IN THE LOW 60S. WINDS SE 5 MPH.

FOR THE MAMMOTH LAKES AREA:

TODAY: SUNNY. HIGHS IN THE MID 70S. WINDS S 5 MPH.
TONIGHT: MOSTLY CLEAR. LOWS IN THE MID 40S. WINDS W 5 MPH.
FRIDAY: MOSTLY SUNNY. HIGHS IN THE MID 70S. WINDS SW 10 - 15 MPH.
FRIDAY NIGHT: PARTLY CLOUDY. LOWS IN THE UPPER 40S. WINDS W 5 - 15 MPH.

FOR MONO COUNTY:

TODAY: SUNNY. HIGHS 78 - 88. WINDS SE 10 MPH.
TONIGHT: CLEAR. LOWS 40 - 50. WINDS SW 10 MPH.
FRIDAY: SUNNY AND A FEW CLOUDS. HIGHS 79 - 89. WINDS S 10 - 15 MPH.
FRIDAY NIGHT: A FEW MORE CLOUDS OVER THE CREST. LOWS 41 - 51. WINDS W 10 MPH.

NOTE: DENNIS' FORECAST ORIGINATES FROM THE FORT INDEPENDENCE EPA METEOROLOGICAL AND PM-10 MONITORING STATION. BECAUSE WEATHER CONDITIONS VARY GREATLY FROM LOCATION TO LOCATION IN THE EASTERN SIERRA, THIS FORECAST MAY NOT BE TOTALLY ACCURATE FOR YOUR AREA.
