FORECAST 23-DEC-08 CHRISTMAS STORM UPDATE

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

A NICE BREAK BETWEEN STORMS TODAY FOR MOST AREAS THEN TWO MORE SYSTEMS MOVE THROUGH ON WEDNESDAY AND CHRISTMAS DAY. THE FIRST ON WEDNESDAY WILL BRING SNOW SHOWERS TO THE HIGH COUNTRY, THEN THE SECOND AND STRONGER SYSTEM ON WEDNESDAY NIGHT INTO CHRISTMAS DAY WILL GIVE US MORE SIGNIFICANT SNOW AND HIGH WINDS. BY FRIDAY AFTERNOON THE LAST SYSTEM WILL DEPART TO THE EAST WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF LINGERING SHOWERS AND COLD AIR INTO SATURDAY WITH SOME TEMPERATURE MODERATION ON SUNDAY.

CHECK CALTRANS FOR HWY CONDITIONS IF YOU PLAN ON TRAVELING ON CHRISTMAS DAY. OR BETTER YET, DON'T TRAVEL AT ALL IN THAT TIMEFRAME, AS ROAD CLOSURES WILL BE VERY POSSIBLE WITH HIGH WINDS AND BLOWING SNOW, PARTICULARLY FROM BISHOP NORTH TO RENO.
