FORECAST 06-MAY-08

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY, MAMMOTH AND MONO COUNTY
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
BROADCASTING FOUR TIMES A DAY ON THE SIERRAWAVE 92.5 / 96.5 FM

TUESDAY, 06-MAY-08, 7:01 AM

A FEW DEGREES WARMING TODAY AS A WEAK RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE BUILDS OVER THE REGION. THIS WILL INHIBIT SOMEWHAT THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE SHOWER AND THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY TODAY THAT WE HAVE SEEN IN THE LAST FEW DAYS. ANOTHER LOW WILL THEN BRUSH OUR AREA ON WEDNESDAY, DROPPING TEMPERATURES SLIGHTLY AND RETURNING THE SLIGHT CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS TO THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS. WINDS WILL ALSO INCREASE WITH THIS SYSTEM ON WEDNESDAY. SHORTWAVE IMPULSES WILL CONTINUE TO TRACK ACROSS OUR AREA THROUGH THE END OF THE WEEK KEEPING TEMPERATURES NEAR OF SLIGHTLY BELOW NORMAL. RIGHT NOW IT LOOKS LIKE WEAK HIGH PRESSURE WILL BUILD IN OVER THE WEEKEND AHEAD OF ANOTHER LOW DUE IN ON MONDAY.

TODAY FOR BISHOP AND THE OWENS VALLEY: SUNNY SKIES BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE LOW 80S AND EVENING LOWS IN THE MID 40S. CALM WIND BECOMING SOUTHWEST WIND 10 - 15 MPH.

TOMORROW FOR BISHOP AND THE OWENS VALLEY: MOSTLY SUNNY BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE UPPER 70S AND EVENING LOWS IN THE LOWER 40S. NORTHWEST WIND 10 - 15 MPH GUSTING TO 25.

TODAY FOR MAMMOTH LAKES: PARTLY SUNNY BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 61 AND EVENING LOWS AROUND 35. NORTH WIND 5 - 15 MPH.

TOMORROW FOR MAMMOTH LAKES: PARTLY SUNNY BECOMING PARTLY CLOUDY WITH A 30% CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS IN THE AFTERNOON AND EVENING. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 57 AND EVENING LOWS AROUND 32. WEST WIND 5 - 15 MPH GUSTING TO 25.

TODAY FOR MONO COUNTY: PARTLY SUNNY TO MOSTLY CLOUDY. HIGH TEMPERATURES RANGING FROM 63 - 72 AND EVENING LOWS 31 - 42. NORTH WIND 10 - 15 MPH GUSTING TO 30 IN THE AFTERNOON.

TOMORROW FOR MONO COUNTY: MOSTLY CLOUDY WITH A SLIGHT CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS IN THE AFTERNOON AND EVENING. CLEARING LATE IN THE EVENING. HIGH TEMPERATURES RANGING FROM 60 - 70 AND EVENING LOWS 22 - 33. SOUTHWEST WIND 10 -20 MPH GUSTING TO 30 THEN BECOMING LIGHT.

NOTE: DENNIS' FORECAST ORIGINATES FROM THE FORT INDEPENDENCE EPA METEOROLOGICAL STATION AND IS FOR A SPECIFIC AREA AND TIME FRAME.
