WEATHER FORECAST 07/16/07

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

WEATHER FORECAST FOR THE OWENS VALLEY AND MAMMOTH AREA
PROVIDED BY DENNIS MATTINSON
EASTERN SIERRA WEATHER FORECASTER
BROADCASTING ON THE SIERRAWAVE 92.5 / 96.5 FM

LAST UPDATE: 8:14 AM PDT JUL 16, 2007

THE MONSOONAL MOISTURE THAT BROUGHT US COOLER TEMPS AND THUNDERSTORMS ALONG THE CREST THIS WEEKEND, IS MOVING NORTHEASTWARD. STILL THERE IS THE LINGERING CHANCE OF ISOLATED T-STORMS IN THE HIGH COUNTRY TODAY. WE SHOULD SEE MOSTLY CLEAR SKIES FOR THE OWENS VALLEY WITH JUST A SLIGHT CHANCE OF T-STORMS OVER THE MOUNTAINS TODAY.

TODAY FOR BISHOP AND THE OWENS VALLEY: SUNNY TURNING PARTLY CLOUDY. SLIGHT CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS IN THE AFTERNOON. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE UPPER 90S AND EVENING LOWS IN THE LOWER 60S. SOUTH WIND 10 - 15 MPH IN THE AFTERNOON.

TUESDAY FOR BISHOP AND THE OWENS VALLEY: MOSTLY SUNNY. HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE UPPER 90S AND LOWS IN THE UPPER 50S. SOUTHWEST WIND 10 MPH.

TODAY FOR MAMMOTH AND SURROUNDING AREA: PARTLY CLOUDY WITH A SLIGHT CHANCE OF ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 81 FOR THE MAIN LODGE AND 92 FOR THE MONO VALLEYS. LOW TEMPERATURE RANGE 45 - 55. SOUTHWEST WIND 10 - 15 MPH IN THE EVENING.

TUESDAY FOR MAMMOTH AND SURROUNDING AREA: MOSTLY SUNNY. HIGH TEMPERATURES AROUND 80 FOR THE MAIN LODGE AND 91 FOR THE MONO VALLEYS. LOW TEMPERATURE RANGE 45 - 55. SOUTHWEST WIND 10 - 15 MPH GUSTING TO 30 IN THE AFTERNOON.

A FAIRLY STRONG LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM IS PROGGED TO MOVE ONSHORE OVER THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST ON WEDNESDAY INTO THURSDAY AND THIS WILL SETUP A DRY SOUTHWEST FLOW AND SLIGHTLY COOLER TEMPERATURES WITH SOME GUSTY WINDS. THEN LOW PRESSURE BEGINS TO LIFT OUT OF THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST ON FRIDAY AS A RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE OVER THE ROCKIES STRENGTHENS AND THIS WILL GIVE OUR AREA WARMING TEMPS AND DRY CONDITIONS THROUGH THE WEEKEND.
