Sleeping In The Woods May Reset Body Clock

Grab your bear can or camp chair, kick your feet up and chew the fat about anything Sierra Nevada related that doesn't quite fit in any of the other forums. Within reason, (and the HST rules and guidelines) this is also an anything goes forum. Tell stories, discuss wilderness issues, music, or whatever else the High Sierra stirs up in your mind.

I am super light-sensitive. I take a sleep mask with me all the time. You can get them for $1 at the dollar store. It really helps! But you guys would have to put up with "sleeping beauty" engraved on the mask!

As for melatonin production, it is very individual. I have a granddaughter (who has Angelmans syndrome) who has absolutely no melatonin production capability. She is on a regular melatonin supplement program. The melatonin sets her body clock to get to sleep, but does little to keep her asleep for 8 hours. So I think falling asleep and staying asleep are two different things. I have also heard that you can over-do the melatonin to the point of having the opposite effect. Sort of like they say you can get sleepy if you drink way too much coffee.
