Maverick's 2015 Annual HST Meet-Up 7/22-7/24/15

A forum to initiate member meet-up. Looking for a hiking/climbing/fishing/skiing/etc. partner, or are you planning a trip where you wouldn't mind having some company? Last minute invites can be just as fun as a well-planned group trip (sometimes even better) so don't be shy! And be sure to post a trip report to the appropriate forum when you get back.

Jim and two buddies are planning on dropping a car @ Shepherd Sun 7/19 and then heading to Horseshoe that same day to get an afternoon start. They are hiking from Trail pass down to the Kern river, up the river trail to the meet-up, then further up to the Kern basin and back-out via Shepherd. Don't know if that lines up with your dates.

I'm going in/out of Shepherd.

So there will be 5 in your group alone Jim?

I don't give out specific route information, my belief is that it takes away from the whole adventure spirit of a trip, if you need every inch planned out, you'll have to get that from someone else.

Rich, I think Jim and his (now 4) buddies + myself are planning on hiking out Sat. If you can convince them to wait till Sun, or decide to leave Sat, then you might be able to catch a ride back to your car @ HM.

Jim, did you convince your kids to come along?

if there's room, that would be a great option, to catch a ride back to Horseshoe.
I can make saturday work. if I know ahead of time, I will just start on the 15th, instead of the 16th, and leave on the 25th, instead of the 26th

Kids? no way on this green earth =; They can't hang more than over night without aborting. John called last Sun. and asked if his son and his son's girlfriend can come along. The more the merrier. His son Matt fly fishes too, so I can leapfrog up the Kern with him while the others pick their own speed. I just got word that Matt makes excellent fish tacos. Perhaps a third person to haul fish to the meetup. At least I won't be the only one with a frying pan.

Rich, our vehicles are maxed out on bodies and we're not sure if we are going out Sat or Sun. I have options for both in case we don't want to haul all of the way from Kern headwaters to the bottom of Shepherd. If I could offer a ride, I would, but the only room would be on top.

I understand.I am late asking. Work has kept me extra busy this year. I am just going to play it by ear, if something happens to open up to get a ride to Horseshoe from Shepherd Pass trailhead, otherwise, I just make my way back to Horseshoe Meadows. And going mid-week, changing permits is easy.... I am thinking more and more of changing my itinerary and just go up Shepherd, and come back the same, and I can cover different country on the west side of Shepherd very easily on the way out, than I cover on the way into Kaweah. Its all good, looking forward to going, and meeting others in person.
