When doing a part of the JMT in 2016, my wife and I spent the night at the backpacker camp at TM and had the opportunity to talk to a nice group of PCT hikers. Besides info about the trail, we were told about three things to watch out for on the trail: the party crowd (saw and heard them), naked hiking day (wife was disappointed not to see anyone) and trail tramps--people who lived off the generosity of others on the trail for, um, favors.
Had no idea this was a thing. Guess those with no job and no money still have "assets" on the trail
