Knocking Rocks Off
I'm sure many people look down on this since it can be a hazard if you don't carefully consider where the rocks you knock off cliffs are going. However when done safely it certainly can be allot of fun. I found a nice rock to push off of the North side of Mt. Fiske this summer and I'm not sure i'll be topping this one any time soon:

Is this like the opposite of stacking cairns?

Re: Knocking Rocks Off
Well we certainly knock cairns down too! In the locations where they're unnecessary that is.
Never put off a backpacking trip for tomorrow, if you can do it today...

did that a couple times at wildcat. Don't think anyone died. I did shout "ROCK" before we rolled it off.

Re: Knocking Rocks Off
In 500+ days i never knocked off any rocks. I was always afraid it might hit someone despite the fact i was cross country a lot and rarely saw anyone cc.

I never used to push rocks off until AlpineMike started coming with me. He likes to break stuff allot. Now he pushes less rocks and I push more lol.

Re: Knocking Rocks Off
As a former alpine rock climber, I find this "fun" very disturbing. A friend of mine was killed by such action, leaving a widow and two small children. Many of the rock faces in the Sierra have climbing routes on them. I really hate to see this kind of stuff get out on the internet creating more copy-cat videos. I will NEVER approve of such activity. The chance for unintended consequences is real. Stick to knocking down cairns.
